Prunus x 'Sweet Treat'

This Sweet Treat was the first of the interspecific crosses created by the prolific modern breeder Fred Zaiger to carry the name pluerry (plum/sweet cherry cross, with bits other prunus family members like apricot and peach). It looks like a rounded, red Asian plum, and the flavor is mostly plum as well, but the cherry brings lots more sweetness and complexity. Clingstone, with lovely amber flesh and a surprisingly small pit.

Reliably pollinated by Asian plums like Toka, Shiro and Beauty, this ripens late and is worth the wait.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I live in west Texas, which is the most heat tolerant pluerry tree variety?

  • What are the chill hours?

    450+ chilling hours

  • What rootstock is this on?

    Myro 29C rootstock

  • Is the Pluerry susceptible to the black rot / mold that can happen in plum trees?

Yes, complex crosses are bred for flavor and color, not disease resistence.
