Eleagnus multiflora 'Red Gem'

This popular Siberian bush makes pea-sized red berries, with edible pits, that taste like pie cherries and ripen midsummer. The tasty berries are high in vitamins C, A and E, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and flavonoids. Goumi fixes nitrogen that it will share with neighbors, so it's great as a hedgerow plant as well as in an area that will support its round, upright and rustic shape. Thousands of soft yellow, bell-shaped flowers in April are intensely fragrant and great bee forage, too!

Very versatile - will grow and fruit in sun or shade, but fruit production is better with more sun. Disease resistant, and no known pests bother this rugged bush. Fully self-fertile, but you'll get more production with a different variety nearby as a pollinizer.

Hardy to USDA Zone: 4

Mature Height: 6'

Sun: Full Sun to Shade

Pollination: Self-Fertile

Very happy with my purchase!

The plant arrived dormant (as expected) but has already started to wake up. Will be getting another one here pretty soon.

Ripened earlier than expected, easy to grow!

Got my first good crop from my little Sweet Scarlet this year. Ripened way earlier than expected. (product description said August but I had a pile of bright red berries just a week ago.) Made a great jam out of a 50/50 combo with some raspberries. Had to fence it against the deer but it’s been a great addition between my pair of apple trees and easy to harvest.

Big and beautiful!

Arrived in great condition! Larger than I thought and doing well even though I left it in the box an extra day the soil was still moist. Can’t wait for it to produce.
