Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Erntesegen'

Erntesegen is one of the most productive European cultivars. It produces both a summer and fall crop of highly flavored sweet/tart large berries on the abundant branch tips. Pronounced "ern-ta-saw-gun", it means "blessed harvest" in Austrian! Unusually resistant to damage from high summer heat.

The vigorous plant with dark green leaves grows 12 to 15 inches tall and will spread from the roots to form a large clump. Select one Red Pearl as a pollinizer for every 10 productive plants if highest production is your goal. Lingonberries are very high in antioxidants. It is hardy to USDA Zones 4 and thrives in the Pacific Northwest and throughout most of the cooler parts of the nation.

  • How many chill hours does the ERNTESEGEN LINGONBERRY variety need to produce fruit? Thank you!

    While some lingonberries have low chilling requirements, most need 800+ chilling hours.

  • Do you think these would grow well In Klamath falls, or? Zone 6a /7b. It seems the chill hours would be met (I think we get 2000+), but I’m not sure the summer heat would work for them. I have two koralle lingonberries that I planted last spring and they have grown but not flowered or fruited. I just moved them to a sunnier place because they were getting a lot of shade. I’m considering adding a pollenizer and a few more of another variety that can tolerate some heat in high summer. It gets into high 80s - low 90s in July & august. Any info much appreciated!

    They should be fine. Lingonberries can stuggle to flower and fruit without enough sunlight. Many varieties of lingonberry also do much better with another variety for cross pollination, setting heavier crops that ripen earlier.

  • Hi, I'm wondering if you ship Erntesegen Lingonberries during the fall? I ordered some last spring, but only one survived the record high summer, I theorize that if sent during the fall the extra time in cooler weather will allow the plants time to adjust and adapt.

Healthy Lingonberries

The lingonberries arrived in really healthy condition. Unfortunately we had a really unusually cool and snowy April. As a result, I only put the plants in the ground on May 5th. Still they maintained their healthy condition for the full 14 days that I had to keep them in storage. Its too early for a full review.
