The thornless Logan is thought to be a wild cross between a blackberry and a red raspberry. Plants are only about half as productive as either Marionberry or Tayberry, but large, flavorful fruit has a unique quality that is highly prized. Many people prefer the flavor to all others. USDA Zones 6-10.

  • What is the growing habit? Erect or trailing?

    Loganberries grow much like blackberries on a single virogous cane that begins erect, but will fall over without support.

  • Do these come as live plants, or dormant root balls?

    They are shipped in 4-inch pots.

An excellent arrival

The logan arrived in excellent condition. I am planting it inside a 27 gallon storage container(with lots of holes for drainage). It is inside a fence, to keep the deer away from it. It is doing well, going to sleep for the winter.

A deep, satisfying taste from a large berry

I just had my first loganberries, and they are wonderful, with an earthy taste and an aftertaste that reminds me -- remotely -- of the smoky aroma of a well-aged Scotch whiskey. I can t wait to couple this with some French Vanilla ice cream. The plant has a couple of dozen berries and a few blossoms, so it has to be considered a good producer after two years of zero berries, a fault of my bad planning. I at first had it planted in morning shade where it received no sun until noon, but moved it last autumn so it gets sunlight after 1030, and that makes all the difference. I think I might have to buy at least one more of these from Raintree.
