Fragaria ananassa 'Eclair'

Éclair is a great new gourmet strawberry - all about the flavor! This berry is fragrant, sweet, juicy, and even features hints of raspberry and citrus. The berry-of-choice for discriminating connoisseurs, this unique taste is quickly becoming a favorite of those who have tried it! Because of the diverse parentage of this new variety, there is confusion about its production window.

Shipped as 25 bareroot crowns. Short-day everbearer that starts early and produces longer than any June-bearers, but not quite as long as most everbearers.

Hardy to USDA Zone: 4

Ask a Question
  • Is this cultivar Junebearing, everbearing or day neutral? It’s listed here as ripening through summer thru fall, but elsewhere online I see it listed as a junebearing. Thanks!

Eclair is a "short day" day netural (which is the same thing as everbearing). They produce earlier in the season than "long day" day neutral strawberries and continue to produce longer than many other day neutral variaties. Claims that they are June bearing are incorrect.

Arrived a bundled mess...

They came very hard to separate or identify crowns. It came as a bundled heap that wasn't the result of shipping. Was unfortunate as Raintree has always had good product.

Pretty bad

Update from last review: most of the plants died, which isn't too surprising considering the state they were in. Planted them in a greenstalk along with some strawberries from a different site and some I grew from seed, the other two varieties are thriving while I estimate only around 5 of these plants actually made it. Maybe the taste is out of this world, can't speak on that yet, but I am pretty disappointed with how little are left.
