Punica granatum 'Eversweet'

Very sweet, virtually seedless fruit - even immature fruits are sweet! Pinkish-red skin, clear (non-staining) juice. Harvest late summer through fall at coast or inland locations; fruits will be larger, sweeter and more abundant in hotter locations. Only 150 chill hours needed.

Pomegranate can be grown as a small tree or in a bush form. Their bright foliage and beautiful orange flowers make them an exceptional landscape plant. Pomegranates ripen well in the South and in California. They grow well in the Pacific Northwest but don’t get the intense summer heat they need to ripen. Growing them as a multi-stemmed bush in a pot and bringing them inside in the fall to finish ripening can extend their productive range.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • If I were to keep this in a pot for the purposes of having it in a greenhouse during the fall/winter in the pacific northwest, how large should the pot bee?

Pomegranates can get large, so as large as you can manage. A 27 dry gallon container, like a half wine barrel, would be ideal, but may not be practical depending on your greenhouse access. They can also be grown year round in a greenhouse if that is easier.

  • I have had this type of tree for at least 4 years, how long does it take to produce, it has never bloomed.

5-6 years is a common period to wait before blooming, especially if the roots stuggled to establish early on

  • Are ever sweet plants grafted plants?

    All named varieties are grafted.
