Prunus persica 'Black Boy'

A rare, hardy, heritage peach cultivar that is leaf curl resistant and has a wonderfully rich flavor. Dark reddish purple skin and flesh have resulted in its name. It ripens late in the  season and is self fertile - perfect for growers with long, hot summers.

Known mainly now in New Zealand, it is related to the Peche de Vigne, the black peach of France. Its fragrant, juicy flesh is highly prized eaten fresh and for preserves.

Very unique fruits!

I bought this tree in 2019, and only in 2022 did it bear fruits. It bore fruits for a second time in 2023. The only issue I have is the name of the variety sounding racially insensitive. Rather than “Black Boy” or “Indian Blood”, I call it “Raven Haven”, due to the dark flesh and juice. Fruits are maroon on the very edge, under the skin, but they get more of a white burst towards the pit. When you slice them, the dark red juice bleeds into the paler part of the fruit, towards the pit area.
In Michigan, this cultivar is a late-season producer, in late September or early October, which thus extends peach season by a month. When fruit is optimally ripe, it is moderately sweet, and slightly tangy. I personally like to remove the outer skin from the fruits most of the time.
All in all, if you’re looking for a late producer, this would be the one to grow!

Nice late peach

I appreciate having a peach that ripens late in the season after my other peach trees have already given all of their fruit. The tree I recieved was a strong one, established itself well while the other two (different type) I received in the same shipment didn't and died within a year.

Strong Healthy Peach Tree

I ordered several fruit trees this last year as we expand our home garden and this peach tree was the largest and healthiest tree we received out of the five different online nurseries we purchased from that year. It continues to grow and mature beautifully. Thank you for a quality product. I balked a bit at the price at first, but now see it is a fair price for the what you get. Thank you!

For my dear Angel Baby

My little tree arrived in perfect condition. I did a scratch test on one of the branches and it showed perfect, moist and green tissue just underneath the "bark". The newspaper shred was nice and moist and it was something of a chore getting the plastic wrap and shred off. The roots were nice and moist and I gave them a couple hour soak before planting. I loosened up the soil and made a nice little "cone" of soil and the root structure hugged the soil perfectly. Even though it is a dwarf, I pruned back the leader and selected five nice branches as scaffold branches and headed them back to nice outward facing buds. This little boy has special meaning to me as it was a gift for my dear wife to join up with her Bardsey Apple now three years old. It was purchased in January as a get well gift for my dear wife who was hospitalized at the time. Sadly, she wasnt able to see it arrive and start it s new life as she lost her fight in February. So for her, I pray for sweet blossoms and lovely fruit in her memory.
