Actinidia arguta

74-32 male hardy kiwi vine starts flowering earlier than our other hardy male kiwi (H440), making it an excellent pollinizer for early-flowering hardy female kiwis such as Cordifolia, Ken's Red and Dumbarton Oaks. Its bloom season continues long enough to also pollinize our other female hardy kiwis. Not a good pollinizer for the later-flowering fuzzy kiwis.

Male hardy kiwis will usually take 3-5 years to mature to flowering age, and can stretch up to 40' long. Plant in fertile, well-drained soils and full-to-part sun; hardy kiwis prefer a little afternoon shade in hotter regions. Male plants will flower, but do not set fruit. One male can produce enough pollen to pollinize up to 8 female fruiting plants.

  • Which male is better for pollinzing Issai - H440 or 74-32?

Either is fine for Issai based on it's later bloom period.

Hardy Male Kiwi

The Hardy was added as a pollinizer for the kiwi bundle.

After it's arrival (packaged well) it has been growing without issue (all 6 kiwis seem to be doing great; great looking leaves).

Thank you Raintree.

I have used rain tree nursery for close to twenty years. I always get plants in great shape and right about the right time for planting.
With that said, I've had continuing problems with my male kiwis. I planted a male along with two female plants in 2016. I live in south central tennessee. The female plants are godzilla in size and doing wonderfully. The male plants, however, tend to freeze out in the winter after about two years. They get nice big and healthy in the year before they're gonna Bloom., then die. I'm assuming its winterkill. This is 3rd male. So I don't think they're Hardy enough for growing here. And I may just have to not have any kiwis 😒
But Raintree is a great company.
