QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • When will my Akane Apple be ready to pick. There are apples on the tree, they are smallish and not entirely red at this point. It is a young tree in a reasonably large pot getting pretty much full sun. I am in Everett .Thank you.

In our area Akane ripens mid September, but the exact time will vary with location and climate. It ripens much earlier in areas with an earlier summer.

  • Will the Akane grow in zone 7 and if so, what other types will it cross pollinate with?

Yes, and it will cross pollinate with any other non-triploid apple in bloom groups 1-3. Check out our Apple Growing Guide for a full breakdown of apple pollination and your options on a handy chart.

  • Is it possible to obtain an Akane tree on standard rootstock?

We do not carry it on standard stock at this time.

  • Does this Akane apple tree cross pollinate with Honey Crisp? And how many chill hours? I am zone 9

Akane does not cross pollinate Honeycrisp, they are too far apart in bloom times. Akane requires 800+ chilling hours.

  • What is the Blooming Time ?

This apple is a bloom grouo 2 - check out our Apple Growing Guide for more information on apple tree pollination and a bloom time chart!
