Albion Strawberry

I ordered these the spring of 2024. They arrived as bare root, no-top plants that were pretty messy, but boy did they grow! This is a VERY vigorous variety producing a profusion or runners and gorgeous big berries. They are a day-neutral variety so they produce a continuing trickle of berries from spring to fall with a somewhat larger flush in spring. I planted these in a GreenStalks tower which worked well because I didn't have room for a traditional flat bed. The tower worked well to avoid mildew and critters which were both a problem when I had a flat bed years ago. But, I don't think the towers produce the same yield as a flat bed overall, though in a space 18x18 inches it is hard to beat. What was disappointing in my setup was that by late summer all the plants save 7 died. Don't know why. I planted a second tower with Seascape plants and all of those survived just fine, and I will be using Seascape in all my vertical towers. I have put the surviving Albion plants in pots in scattered corners of the garden. Albion produces bigger berries than Seascape, but all my Seascape plants are alive while only a remnant of the Albion are.

Absolutely love! Albion Strawberry. This is the fourth or fifth time I’ve ordered them from Raintree over the last number of years— some for my parents and some for myself. Now I am re-married and just planted some at my husband’s home. He fell in love with the flavor of mine and wanted them here, too. They — 26 of them — arrived from Raintree and were planted next day. One is still a little iffy, but the others are growing well and putting out new leaves. Looking forward to those yummy berries later in the summer.

93 of 100 bare root Albion strawberry plants successfully established, and are growing well. However, 7 did not, and we're pathetic upon delivery. I think the quality control of the Barrow strawberries leaving the nursery could be improved with such a vast variation in root developmen and crown size.
Since Raintree Nursery told me there were no more Albion bare root Strawberries in stock, I chose to purchase ten additional plants for Amazon to complete the layout in my race bed garden. I attached a screenshot of 4 plants that were DOA upon arrival.

This was the worst stock I’ve ever received. I will not be purchasing again. Barely had any crowns and even after soaking, the roots were dry and knarly. The plants were so tightly wrapped that the crowns and roots tore when untangling them. The mailing package was abysmal- so much cardboard when it could have been placed in a flat mailUSPS container for half the cost. I’ve listen 50% already. Totally disgusted.

I was worried that shipping would result in poor plants (checking the tracking on these showed they were in Chehalis so I thought I would receive them next day but the shipping showed they were going backwards - to Gray's Harbor then back to Chehalis) However, they arrived were planted & doing well! First time trying these particular Strawberries so I will review once we get to try them!

Got my tiny bundle of 25 dead looking little strawberries on a Saturday and planted them on Sunday. Lots of little green leaves by Tuesday! Bare root planting always amazes me! Now I just need to keep the rodents away!

Bare roots are new for me, so I was a bit nervous that I'd do it wrong and nothing would grow. Within a week of the package arriving I prepped and planted all 25 roots. Of those 23 rooted and started to grow! Almost a month later, a handful of those are already starting to bud fruit. Very happy and looking forward to having an access of strawberries!

All the plants had leaves just 9 days after planting. I'll be harvesting soon.

My bare root plants were in really good shape. I just wished the 2 different types had been labeled. I had a runner one and one that was not runners. I had a plan where to plant the different types,now it is just a wait and see what comes out.

The bareroots came already slightly sprouted for the year with lots of fine hair roots for good water uptake. They've been in the ground three days and are developing nicely.

The starts look really good and healthy. Nice root system. Too early to tell what the berries will be like. Had 2 bundles but only 18 in a bundle instead of 25.

I have had a terrible time with chipmunks stripping all of my hood plants bare before the berries even turn red. Those that do turn slightly red get pecked at by robins. This is with bird netting, which is completely ineffective.

However, two years in a row and they don't touch the albions! I have read that the birds will leave your plants alone once their birds have fledged - perhaps that is the same with the chipmunks? Perhaps the late fruiting or something else about this variety is not desirable. I don't even have to bother with netting!

And the flavor is great!

Strawberries arrived black in color covered in white mold. Planted them in garden weeks ago only 3 out of 25 grew. Wish I would have tried to get my money back. I have grow albions for many years and these are the poorest plants I have received.

I’m not sure yet. I watched the video and planted them the day after I received them. Some of them were slimy and those seem to be the ones that aren’t beginning to show leaves. I’m hoping the roots were strong enough to overcome any degradation. I think that some of your employees are much better at packaging the bare root plants.

The straberries arrived way to early.

Snow on the ground and it was frozen.

Had the bed ready last fall,but the nights

were way below frezzing.

Fater a few weeks planted them.

Half were dead.

I ordered 50 plants. Paid for 25 and received 23. I am o.k. with all of that! However, have had more trouble since then. I planted them and kept them watered. It has been 2 and 1/2 weeks now. 3 sprouted almost immediately and look great. One more looks like it has a tiny bit of green coming but the rest look absolutely dead! I am so sad!! Should I just wait and try again next year??

I love these strawberries, they produce well, taste great, and survive my zone 5a weather. What more could I ask for?

Why would a good company like your buy crappy product from another company and send to a customer. I bet that if I'm lucky maybe one plant will make it. I did everything I could to. I could take a picture in about a week and send you and you tell me what you think. Thanks Dave

The Albion plants arrived as expected in fairly good condition. There were a lot of black leaves on the plants and they were somewhat smaller plants than I had expected but that may be the nature of this type of strawberry. They have all been planted and are looking good. Thank you for the quick service. Flo Davis

I grow Albion Strawberries in my hoop house in Western Washington every year. As long as they are replaced every year they do well and produce large tasty berries for a long time regardless of the heat or cold. As fall comes the cold nights combined with the high humidity causes berry rot but Albions are much better than the other ever bearers I have tried.

I've purchased Albion before from multiple nurseries and they always seem to do exceptionally well. The plants are robust and the fruit is sweet and enjoyable even before being completely ripe. I would definitely consider buying these again and recommend them for Southern California gardens along with Chandler and Eversweet.

I ordered 25 crowns and there ended up being 26 in the bundle, for starters. They took off last spring and produced a modest handful of berries each over the course of that summer/fall as well as a decent number of runners that I planted up. This year, they ve been moved to much larger planters and are already starting to flower in April! Judging by the number of buds already coming up, this year s harvest will be much more prodigious.
