Actinidia arguta 'Annanasnaja'

Easy to grow and loaded with fruit! Developed in Russia by renowned plant breeder I.V. Michurin. It is a beautiful, vigorous vine that produces thousands of delicious kiwi-flavored sweet fruit at Raintree every autumn. The name means "pineapple-like" in Russian, named for its fabulously strong and fruity flavor. It is the easiest to grow and most productive of all the hardy kiwis.

These fast-growing, beautiful vines produce clusters of oblong kiwi fruits the size of large grapes. Lacking the rough "fuzzy" kiwi skin, these smooth fruits can be eaten whole, like bunches of kiwi-flavored seedless grapes. Originally brought to this country as an ornamental, the green fruit is similar to the fuzzy kiwi in flavor, though sweeter and easier to eat. The smooth-textured vines are very vigorous and need a strong support. Training a fruiting female vine up the legs or railings of a deck, or along an unattractive chain link fence, can create a great tropical effect and be uniquely easy to harvest! Have a hardy arguta male for pollination.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • what is the male pollinator for ANNANASNAJA HARDY KIWI?

The "male hardy kiwi" and "male fuzzy kiwi" plants we sell will both work.

  • Hi, I see that Cordifolia (hardy kiwi) takes 3 - 5 years to bare fruit. Does Ananasnaya also take that long? (Looking for something sooner if possible!) Thanks , Lauren

All of the arguta kiwis, which both of these are, can take up to 7 years to mature and flower (but usually 3-5 years). The same is true for the male plants, that you also must have. If either plant is too young to flower there will be no pollination and no fruit.

  • Will deer browse the hardy kiwis?

Absolutely, deer will browse anything. Fortuantely they grow pretty aggressively once established and you won't really notice on a mature trellised vine.

Hardy kiwiberry vines

My kiwi vines came beautifully packaged and damage free. I got them in the ground the same day they arrived and are already putting out new growth on all vines. I have 186 feet of cattle panel trellis lining the north side of my property which creates my south facing growing condition. Can't wait till these vines are back in stock because I'm ordering several more. Thanks for supplying my gardening addiction lol
