 Pyrus communis 'Arganche'

Among the most flavorful early-ripening pears at the National Pear Germplasm Repository in Corvallis, OR. This dainty yellow pear from Yugoslavia, also called Mustafabey in Turkey, Zaharoasa de Vara in Romania, and Klementinka in Bulgaria, ripens in mid July there. Fruit is small like Seckel, yellow-skinned with red blush. Flesh is smooth, sweet, juicy, and firm.

Arganche is a naturally compact tree due to relatively short internodes, has abundant fruiting spurs, and is consistently productive. Resistant to scab in most areas.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • In the description, at the upper right, it says "Semi dwarf, 4-5 feet," but the grow height is estimated at 15 feet? Is the shorter size estimated plant height when shipped? Or canopy diameter?

It is a pear tree, grafted onto semi-dwarf rootstock, 4'-5' tall when shipped, and will grow to approximately 15 feet over time.

  • What is the planting space per this semi dwarf pear tree? It only says 15’ height.

16 foot centers are best, but 12 foot centers will work

  • What would you recommend as a pollinator that is also zone 4? I am only seeing zone 5+ varieties under the recommendations. Thank you!

Being a mid season bloomer you can pair it with any other European pear for cross polliantion.

  • It's blooming time is not listed anywhere?

Arganche is a mid season bloomer making it universally compatible with our European pears for the purpose of cross pollination.

Homegrown Fresh Fruit

Everything shipped well and is in the ground. I ordered an additional peach tree and will add it to my stock of trees and berries that I have planted over the years. What is the replacement policy. I have an apple tree going on year two and it died out

Love this pear

Just ate my first harvest (late July in Vancouver WA)! Absolutely delicious. An attractive, naturally neat small tree--beautiful, fragrant small pears with nice floral flavors. Interesting swollen branch tips lead to strong, robust branches. Slow to grow but needed almost no pruning.
