Ziziphus jujuba 'Qi Yue Xian'

Autumn Beauty jujube tree delivers a distinct, apple-like flavor, ripening earlier than other varieties. Attractive and disease-resistant, it is suitable for confined spaces and easy to care for. Its tiny mid-summer greenish/yellow blooms lead to 2-inch long dark chocolate brown fruit that is crisp and very sweet, great for eating and drying in October—Self-fertile yet even more abundant when planted with another jujube.

Grow in full sun - all day sun if you have it. Rootstock can sucker in the early years, so keep any suckering shoots cut as soon as you see them. Offer regular water during establishment - considered drought tolerant once established. Tolerant of sea spray. Usually more productive in USDA zones 8 and above. Considered low chill, needing only 400 hours of temperatures between 32F-45F to reliably flower and bear fruit. Late to leaf out each spring.

Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 6

Mature Height: 18'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: Late Summer

Pollination: Reliably Self-Fertile but will produce more with a different variety

Size: 1 Gallon Pot

First year Autumn Beauty Jujube has survived several heat waves in zone 10b and overcome water stress to thrive . Five stars for thriving in the desert heat.
Recommend a trellis or structure for it to grow. Mine is 6 foot tall with walnut size drupe fruit in mid august. I assume fruit will darken from green to brown as it matures. I planted in a very large container rather than into the ground to avoid it overtaking the area via the root system. Saying that, no runner have come up in the pot. Will report back concerning taste and sweetness.

Disappointed

Very small ..less than a pencil ..and only 10" high. A ripoff for the price and shipping was way too much..scratch this supplier off my list.
