Pyrus communis 'Ayer's'

This old variety is favored in the South as the "sugar" pear because the pulp tastes like candy! Medium sized fruit is yellow with a pronounced red blush.

This tree is fireblight resistant. It blooms early and ripens in September. It has a low chill requirement of approximately 300-400 hours and has proven to do well in the Pacific Northwest, as well as for our humid Southern growers.

Didn't work for me!

Unfortunately, this tree did not work for me. I got it spring 2024 and box and tree were damaged during shipping. I did contact Raintree and let them know. They suggested I try to plant and I did but this spring it is dead. I don't know if it was the shipping or Raintree. Other orders I have placed from Raintree have been successful.
