Reputed in England to be the best late Gage plum, this self-fertile selection features a rich flavor, sweet, juicy, deep yellow flesh and yellow-green skin dotted with white. It ripens in late September and hangs on the tree for several weeks. A favorite since 1843, it is large for a Gage and produces a reliable crop. The compact tree suits small gardens.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Which other gage plum would you recommend as a partner for this variety? I have an Italian plum that I bout from you guys in spring of this year and a Stanley plum from another nursery. I don’t want a damson of any kind though and this one is described as a late blooming gage and I’d like another plum that could help it set more fruit if possible.

Any other gage will work well. Stanley might work, but Italian plum blooms too late even for the later blooming gage plums.

  • Can this Bavay Gage pollinate Mirabelle de Metz or Nancy? Is it necessary to get two Mirabelles to pollinate each other?

Gage and damson plums are both options, for mirabelle plums. Mirabelle plums can pollinate each other as well, but tend to need to be planted closer than average to ensure good compatibility.

  • Does Bavay Gage pollinate Blue Damson?

Yes! Gages are great pollinizers for damson and mirabelle plums!

  • do you''ll ship in the fall?

Bareroot shipping times are roughly Feb-May of any given year.

Bava gage plum

I put it in ground minutes after it arrived, (wish it had more roots though) still waiting for it to bid out.

This one had the sparsest root system and three little branches up top, including the central leader, a little bit of funny, reverse taper on the graft. all should be fine though.
