Malus domestica 'Beni Shogun'

Beni Shogun is a good friend to have - a sport of the ever-popular Fuji variety, scab and mildew resistant and a great choice for the organic grower! The fruit, which ripens in early Fall (almost a full month before Fuji!), is a pleasing dark red color and has an excellent, sweet, juicy flavor. Enjoy it fresh, made into a wonderful cider, or kept in a box for months.

Considered low chill, due to its Fuji parentage; needs approx 500 hours to successfully produce blossoms and fruit. Bloom category 3 mid-season. Hardy to USDA zone 5.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Is this a good pollinator for the honey crisp?

Yes, this variety will work well.

  • Do these fruit the first year?

They might if they establish well enough to flower. Beware early bearing, too much fruit bearing will cost the tree root system growth and may stunt or kill it.

  • When should I pick my Beni Shogun apples. The ripening hard says mid to late September but the descriptor says mid October.

Depends entirely on your region and the weather of the season. Refer to our Apple Picking video on our YouTube channel to know when and how to pick your apples.
