Crataegus pinnatifida var. major 'Big Golden Star'

Unlike the common hawthorn, this tree has few or no thorns, which makes gathering the fruit much easier (and safer!). This cultivar was bred for fruit size - the Chinese use them for candy, soups and traditional medicines.

It is a striking small tree with very large, lobed leaves. Amazing masses of white spring flower clusters, good autumn color, and large (for a hawthorn) edible fruits 1 1/2 inch in diameter, that have an apple taste, and hang on the tree long after the leaves have dropped. Tough, disease-resistant and hardy - this tree is great for hedgerows or in small scale, rustic designs. Very popular with wildlife.

Very happy with the tree

The tree arrived well protected in the box. It looks bigger than I expected and looks very strong and healthy too. Very happy with the purchase. Definitely will come back for my next tree.

Great condition on arrival.

Received this big golden star hawthorn with the red sun Chinese hawthorn together. They are planted next to each other in my backyard. Both have fresh buds ready to grow.

Received in healthy condition and growth was strong

Only got one problem, I guess the leaves are very delicious, it attracted different types of bugs comes to eat them. There is no single leave without any hole. But I guess it is the variety not the nursery fault. Hope the tree is more bug resistant in the second year.
