We love the flavor and productivity of this large, firm, deep red (almost black), disease-resistant sweet cherry. A delicious mid-season treasure, especially for our East Coast growers!

It is late blooming and self fertile so its sets a big crop where others fail. Moderately tolerant of rain at ripening time. From New York Fruit Testing.

  • Hi Will you have any standard BlackGold cherry trees available for spring 2023?

    Currently we are only carrying this variety on Gisela 5. That may change, but not at this time.

  • Will the Black Gold and Bing cherry pollinate each other?

    Yes, Black Gold is a reliable pollinizer for Bing!

  • If I live on zone 6a, what do I need to spray the tree with & when for it to be successful?

    Your growing zone isn't what matters for spraying, its more about your actual location. Google what pests or diseases commonly impact cherries in your area, depending on where you live there may be no need to spray at all.

  • Will there be any mini BlackGold cherry trees for spring 2025?

    Probably yes. Use the Notify my when available button to get an email when they are in stock. 

  • Will it grow in tn zon 6 to 7

    Yes, but will require spraying to be successful.

  • Will a self fertile cherry tree pollinate with a pluerry tree?

    Pluerry trees require Asian plum pollination.

  • How old is 4 to 5 foot dwarf Cherry trees?

    3 years old

  • will black gold and ranier cross pollinate ?

    Yes they will

  • Will mini-dwarf cherries survive potted in half whiskey barrels?

    If cared for yes!

    Yes they will cross polliante just fine

  • This tree is listed as hardy in zone 9 but another question about chill hours says it requires 800+. Zone 9 gets 1-300 chill hours so I'm not quite sure what to think?

    Those things are unrelated. USDA zones only refer to the coldest average winter temperatures and do not predict growing degree days or chilling hours.

  • Is this a true self-pollinator?

    If by "true" you mean it sets a full crop of cherries, yes.

  • Can these be planted in fall or only spring?

    They can be planting in fall, but are not shipped in the fall.

  • Is the Black Gold a good cross-pollinator for a Rainier cherry?

    Yes! They work great together.

  • how many chill hours does this required?

    Black Gold requires 800+ chill hours

First order from Raintree

The tree arrived as a single shoot, roots were wet and wrapped. It had leaf buds and one blossom on it when it arrived. Unfortunately the Ohio ants ate the blossom, however, the tree is branching out beautifully and I'm looking forward to next year! I will definitely be ordering again once I get my garden layout complete.

Healthy and productive

I received and planted this tree in spring 2023. It has a good structure with a few primary branches when I received it that I tied down to create an open center. It leafed out well the first year and this year is covered with cherries! Excited for the harvest this year and even more fruit in the years to come.

Excellent beginning

I ordered the Black Gold mini dwarf on Gisela 3 rootstock and put it in the ground a few weeks ago. Amended the soil with biotone starter with mycorrhizae fungi and watered in with a rooting solution. Tree arrived in excellent shape, green leaf buds along a maiden sapling (no branches on arrival). Healthy, moist roots. Planting area is slightly above grade. Planted just before a lengthy period of fairly regular rainfall. Tree has leafed out beautifully and appears to be starting to branch a bit. Very pleased with its start!
