Bouche de Betizac Grafted Chestnut
Castanea sativa x crenata 'Bouche de Betizac'
USDA Prohibits shipping chestnuts to Arizona.
A French hybrid between Castanea sativa (European chestnut) and Castanea crenata (Japanese chestnut), it is a pollen sterile, vigorous tree with upright growth. This cultivar produces yearly large crops of medium-large nuts (25-30 per pound) that taste good and are easy to peel. Resistant to Asian gall wasp and leaf anthracnose, and may be resistant to chestnut blight. Mid-late ripener that usually ripens even in cool summer regions. Requires a reliable pollen-producer for pollinization; we suggest Precoce Migoule or Marigoule. Should start bearing 3 years after planting.
