Prunus domestica 'Coe's Golden Drop'

A legendary oblong, golden plum introduced in 1800 at Bury St. Edmunds, England. The medium-to-large fruits have straw-yellow skin and golden flesh. The plums are incredibly sweet and juicy and have a pocket of intense apricot-like flavor.

The freestone fruit ripens in October on vigorous, healthy trees, extending the plum season. It needs a pollinizer. Considered low chill - will bloom and bear reliably in areas with 425 hours between 32F-45F.

Delicious plum! Best in my garden!

I am in Seattle proper (zone 8b) & my garden gets full sun.
I planted this tree in early 2023, mulched it with pine bark, watered once every 10 days & then fertilized with compost & bonemeal in late November 2023. The tree flowered in spring 2024 & I hand poliinated it with flowers from my Purple gage plum. I thinned the fruit set to 5 or really, the tree thinned itself. I stopped watering in 1st week of August. We had some rain on August 23-25th which caused some fruits to split. The splitting actually hastens ripening but fruits have to be checked regularly.
Plums started ripening in last week of August & I took the last on off on 4th September. These are amazingly sweet, juicy & flavorful even when they are not fully ripe (turned color to a peachy green). This is not as sweet as Stanley but much more complex. I love it!
The tree I got was healthy & nicely branched. I trained the branches to a slightly lower angle when I planted it.
Not bad for a 2nd leaf tree!!
