CoffeeCake Persimmon
Diospyrus kaki 'Nishimura Wase'
Commonly known as CoffeeCake in the United States. A richly-flavored variety that ripens a month before Fuyu. It ripens in climates with summers too cool to consistently ripen the non-astringent variety Fuyu. The fruit is large and roundish. It is called Coffee Cake for its rich flavor and brown flesh color when ripe. It is a non-astringent pollination variant which means when pollinized it develops its rich and sweet flavor best. It's also non-astringent when it is pollinized, and astringent when grown solo. Chocolate is the best pollinizer.
The tree is vigorous and easy to grow - disease-resistant and reliable once established. Give regular water all summer to prevent fruit drop and keep ripening fruits juicy. Low chill at only 100-200 hours at 45F.
