Chaenomeles speciosa 'Contorta'

Gorgeous pink flowers cover this unusually contorted 2-3' tall shrub in the very early spring. Cut branches can be brought indoors in late winter to bloom. The twisted form is striking in the winter landscape, when the unusual shape of the branches can be fully appreciated. While it will set fruit if a different Chaenomeles speciosa variety is nearby, the fruit is considered of poor quality. It's the flowers and form that really makes this quince bush shine!

One of the few quince reliably resistant to fireblight.

USDA Zone: 5-9

Mature Size: 3'-5'

Sun: Full Sun/Partial Shade

Ripening Time: October

Pollination: Partially Self Fruitful

Size: 1 Gallon Pot

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Is there thorns on this variety?

Yes, thorns are part of the deal when you're getting a flowering quince.

  • What is the fruit like? Comparable to the non- flowering varieties?

The fruit is not considered choice and even unedible by some. This quince is for the flowers.

Happy Customer!

I am so happy with every aspect of this purchase. The description was accurate and informative. Shipping was fast with excellent packaging. The customer service is outstanding. As an avid gardener of 30+ years I am quite impressed with Raintree Nursery and plan to add more of their gorgeous plants to my garden.

love it

I've wanted a contorted quince for a long time, but it was always out of stock when i had extra money to buy one. finally got one. it arrived in great shape and went into a prime location where those twisted branches and spring flowers can be appreciated. We also plan to use the sour fruits for pectin in fruit preserves. it's great when plants serve multi-purposes besides just being unique and beautiful.
