Corkscrew Willow
Salix matsudana ‘Tortuosa’
Corkscrew willow is beloved by florists and flower arrangers for its beautiful, smooth, green bark and unique contorted form. Corkscrew willow is also a great landscape choice for soggy spots with full sun, as it loves water! Pollarding the trunk regularly can enhance the growth of new, more heavily twisted stems. This is a female clone, so pollen production is less than on male cloned varieties.
Willow can grow rapidly to 20'-30' tall x 15’ wide and while excellent for bank stabilization, willow roots can be aggressive and moisture-seeking. Take care to plant away from water lines and septic systems.
