Prunus persica 'El Dorado'

An early-maturing and early-ripening genetic dwarf with medium-sized, great-tasting fruit and pretty, red-blushed skin. Its rich, yellow flesh is freestone and good for all-around use. Self fertile and early-blooming, its small stature makes it both a beautiful bush and easy to cover if an unexpected spring freeze arrives. Only 500 chill hours needed. Does well in pot or ground.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • can this (or other peach varieties) be espaliered in a stepover way? I want to plant it along a low stone wall for reflected heat and am looking at the very dwarf rootstock varieties to keep the height low and manageable. [I haven't built the wall yet, but am looking at about designing a 3' wall.]

Due to their tip-bearing fruiting habit, peaches do not do well in an espalier form.

  • Is the El Dorado peach miniature sold in pot or bareroot?

These are sold as bareroot plants and ship in the spring.

  • how far apart do you plant this tree?

As close as 6 feet together!

  • If my area receives 1000+ chill hours can i still grow this variety? Or would it come out of dormancy too early?

Chill hours are just one factor that determines when a plant comes out of dormancy. This tree will be fine.

  • will it fruit the same year planted if planted late winter?

These trees will need a couple years to establish before producing fruit.
