Prunus salicina x 'Emerald Beaut'

A delicious and unusual late-ripening Asian plum. Ripe fruit holds on the tree longer than any other stone fruit - two months or more. It continues to sweeten, becoming exceptionally sweet, but it remains crisp and crunchy! The Beaut has green skin, which gets yellower as it fully ripens, and yellow/orange, clingstone flesh. It may taste like a pluot, but it's all plum.

A vigorous and upright grower, it needs 600-700 chill hours to reliably set its glorious fruit. Although developed by Floyd Zaiger, it is NOT an interspecific variety. Another late-blooming Asian plum or a pluot are good pollinizers. Fruit may not fully ripen in cool summer areas.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Will a Toka or Black Ice hybrid plums pollinate this tree?

Yes, all Asian plums should be fine, especially Toka.

  • Will the Santa Rosa Plum or Stanley Plum work as a pollinator for Emerald Beaut?

Santa Rosa is especially good, but Stanley will not. You need an "Asian plum" for Emerald Beaut.

  • How old is this tree or what's its caliper. When will it be fruit ready?

This tree is 3 years old and should produce fruit within 2-3 years of planting if it establishes well.

  • How long till it bears?

3-4 years after planting, sometimes earlier and sometimes later. Plums can be finicky!

  • Will a regular Santa Rosa Plum pollinate an Emerald Beauty Plum?

    Absolutely yes

It showed up dormant still in May but it budded out pretty quickly once I got it planted and hooked up to water.

Asian plum with its own flavor

I first tried this variety at the Korean consulate to WA states house. Largish Green skin plum with yellow background- very crispy and sweet! I planted one in 2011 and in all this time I have only picked maybe 12 plums off it. I grafted a branch from my beauty but its bloom peaks about 10 days before emerald beaut blooms. I planted a superior close by about 3 years ago and it looks like its going to bloom at the same time so... we will see.
OK so the plums I have gotten from my tree are bigger than a golf ball for sure and are at least as big a a shiro gets or a stanley, the shape is more round than a stanley. They eventually get solid yellow with a little red blush and the texture changes from crisp to almost mango like, in fact when at peak ripeness the flesh has a similar color, flavor and texture to a mango- similar, not the same. They are really good! I am hoping I have the timing down now and would love to have a tree full of emerald beauts! My tree has grown quite uprite so I should have put spreaders in from the get go.
PS in the 30+ years I have bought trees from raintree (maybe over 30 trees) I had a problem with having the wrong variety send and maybe one that was damaged during shipping and they promptly took care of it-0thanks!

Emerald Beaut Plum

My bare root emerald beaut tree came nicely packaged and looks healthy. I will say, however, that I bought an emerald beaut tree about 5 years ago and was disappointed to find out years later when the tree started to produce fruit that I was given a mislabeled tree that was NOT an emerald beaut. I complained but this was unfortunately never resolved, so I just had to buy another one. Hopefully this time I was given the right tree.

Ordered from raintree many times in the past before ownership change. This most recent order took roughly three weeks to ship from the order date which was not due to weather just being busy I was told. I'm sorry but something is wrong with your systems if it's literally taking that long to ship from order date and it's not due to weather conditions. Hate to say it but unless it's something I can't find anywhere else, I'll most likely from someone else in the future.
