Erntesegen Lingonberry
Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Erntesegen'
Erntesegen is one of the most productive European cultivars. It produces both a summer and fall crop of highly flavored sweet/tart large berries on the abundant branch tips. Pronounced "ern-ta-saw-gun", it means "blessed harvest" in Austrian! Lingonberries are very high in antioxidants. Unusually resistant to damage from summer heat.
The vigorous plant with dark green leaves grows 12 to 15 inches tall and will spread from the roots to form a large clump. Select one Red Pearl as a pollinizer for every 10 productive plants if highest production is your goal; any other variety will also pollinize for you. Ā Needs 800-1000 chill hours between 32F - 45F to bloom and fruit reliably. It is cold hardy to USDA Zone 4 (-30F) and thrives in the Pacific Northwest and throughout most of the cooler parts of the nation.
