Genie Magnolia
Magnolia x 'Genie'
This elegant, pyramidal tree is the ideal choice for brightening a small garden with its beautiful deep maroon-purple blooms. The lightly scented flowers bloom on bare, upright branches in early spring and continue until early summer, while a late summer bloom can also be expected. Its 'Genie' variety boasts masses of deep plum-red, tulip-shaped blooms, starting as striking blackish-red buds that emit a sweet aroma. For best results, plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and keep watered to encourage repeat blooms throughout summer. Unlike other saucer magnolias, 'Genie' is more resistant to cold weather so you can still enjoy its bloom come springtime. Additionally, it's a great addition to the garden, serving as a delightful butterfly magnet and as cut flowers inside the home.
