Physalis peruviana 'Giant Goldenberry'
Giant Goldenberry is also known by the names Cape Gooseberry, or Peruvian Groundcherry. This beauty is a nightshade native to South America, producing delicious and incredibly nutritious large golden berries.
The velvety leaves and beautiful lantern-like calyx encasing the fruit give this plant excellent ornamental value. It is a rambling 3-5′ understory plant that can be grown as a long season annual in warmer temperate climates, or be taken indoors to be perennial. The berries are very sweet with a complex and tangy aftertaste that can be eaten fresh, be juiced, or turned into jams and marmalades.
