Cydonia oblonga 'Havran'

Exceptionally large, sweeter fruit is the gift of Havran. This durable variety from the Izmir Research Station in Turkey was introduced into the US by Dr. Elwood Fisher. Havran has an unusually sweet flavor when grown in a warm climate, as compared to most American varieties. Early ripening and reliably productive.

At the turn of the 20th century almost every rural family had a fruiting quince tree they relied on for medicine, pectin, and fragrant, long-lasting fruits. The varieties we offer have delightful pineapple-like flavors. They are prized for cooking, jelly making, and adding to apple cider. Quince trees are self fertile and showy, with big white blossoms in late spring and unusual, fuzzy yellow fruits in fall.

    Our bareroot quince are 4'-5' tall at shipping.

  • Are these deer resistant?

    Not specifically no.

  • What are the chill hours for this variety?

    Low chill! Approximately 150 chill hours.

  • Do you have any information on this cultivar's susceptibility/resistance to fire blight?

    Havran has no specfic improved resistance to fireblight and should be considered susceptible.

Healthy looking tree

It's been several months since I received and planted my Havran Quince tree and wanted to see how it will start developing so I can write my review. It is looking fantastic. I had simultaneously ordered two other quince trees from another place and they are not doing well at all. I am extremely happy with my purchase from Raintree and I wish I had ordered all of my quince trees from them. The tree I received was very well packaged and it had a great root system developed and the tree itself was nice and thick.

I received a healthy Havran Ayva( Quince ). I am originally from Turkiye so excited to receive this type of Quince. I heard about this variety but never had it. I am looking forward to see this variety fruiting.
