Ziziphus jujuba 'Honey Jar'

Honey Jar jujube is a new, delicious, early-ripening variety! Honey Jar is by far the sweetest and juiciest of the varieties we offer; it's excellent for fresh eating or dehydrating. Honey Jar is also self fruitful, making it great to grow on its own, or to use as a pollination partner for other cultivars!

Jujubes are pretty trees with glossy green leaves that turn yellow in the autumn. Called “Chinese Date”, the fruit is very sweet, reddish brown when ripe, 1-1/2” long with a single seed. These grafted trees will grow to 20’ or more but can be maintained much smaller. They are very productive and early bearing. The fruit needs hot summers to ripen well. In cooler summers pick it half brown and half green and bring it inside to finish ripening.

USDA Zone: 6-10

Grow Height: 18'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: September

Pollination: Self Fruitful

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can this variety be grown in pots long-term? Thanks!

In a large enough pot yes, they do well with the extra heat and drier conditions that pots create.

  • Will the Honey Jar Jujube become date-like when dried like the Lang?

Yes, it has a marginally higher sugar content than the Lang, but will dry the same.

  • Will the Li Jujube pollinate with this variety?

    Yes, they will cross pollinate.

No complaints

Plant arrived in great condition and decent size. So far tree is doing well once it was planted, a little pricey but we’ll see if it’s worth it

Dead

I think my anxiously waited for Jujube arrived dead. It shows no sign of life. I did unpack upon arrival and carefully planted it. Will you replace it with a living plant?
