Vitis labrusca

Prohibited to OR, ID and NY.

This flavorful, red, seedless cultivar from horticulturist Bill Schultz of Olympia, WA, ripens in cool maritime summers. Grows in USDA Zone 5-9. Ripens in September.

A grapevine can be both a highly productive source of fruit and a focal point of considerable beauty. Think carefully about where to plant one to provide shade, cover a wall or accentuate an arch. We offer grapes most of which will ripen even in areas with cool summers. The ripening dates listed are for the cooler parts of Western Washington, but most ripen sooner and thrive where summers are warmer.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Do you have info on disease resistance? We live in Seattle and fungus is a problem.

This grape does well in the PNW with looser fruit clusters that don't as easily invite botrytis to establish. As with all grapes, keep your vines pruned well for maximum airflow and light penetration to keep the disease from establishing.

  • Are these grapes resistant to soil fungus?

There is no specific resistance to phytophthora crown or root rot, but we do know it thrives in our wet PNW climate.

  • I placed an order for the Hungarian Seedless Grape but probably should’ve asked first- I’m interested in grape vines with the shiniest leaves i can find (I use them for Mediterranean grape leaves). I’m much less interested in the grape itself. Are the leaves on this grape variety smooth and shiny? Thanks.

Not espeically. You should look into wine grapes for that leaf quality, not seedless table grapes. Muscadine is an example of what you want.

  • When will this produce fruit?

Usually 2-3 years after transplant, depending on climate and how well they establish

I received my Hungarian Grape and it was so healthy and beautiful!

Raintree never disappoints me with their healthy plants, but this order takes the cake.
