Prunus domestica 'Imperial Epineuse'

This wonderfully flavorful, sweet French prune plum has been used at the English National Fruit Trials as a standard to judge prune flavor. The medium-to-large plums have dusky burgundy/purple skin and clear amber flesh when perfectly ripe. The flavor is fabulous, and the fresh texture is dense, silky and succulent.

The tree is an attractive upright grower; not as much of a spreader as many other plums. Requires a different variety Euro plum as a pollinizer. The freestone fruit ripens in late August.

Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 5

Mature Height:  12'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: August

Pollination: Requires a Pollinizer Partner

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I am very interested in your plum variety Imperial E and as is said in some of the descriptions it is better to have it paired with another variety to aid in pollination. What other variety would you recommend. I have a farm in Yolo County west of Sacramento and I have room for two trees.

Prune d'Ente is another fine prune plum that work well, but really most non-Gage and non-Mirabelle plums will do that for you.

  • How wide will the imperial epineuse plum be when mature?

    14-16 feet wide at maturity.

  • I’m confused about the actual full height of the imperial epineuse plum. It’s listed as a dwarf (4’-5’) but in the description its states 12’(which generally is a semi-dwarf size). Could you please clarify for me. Thank you

The size upon shipping is 4'-5', but it will grow to 12' tall when mature.
