Japanese Pussywillow
Salix chaenomeloides
One of the most colorful of the pussy willow family members; silver or purple-to-pink buds open to long, silvery 2 1/2” catkins. Early pollinators relish the pollen and nectar that follow as the soft, furry buds mature. New leaf growth is red maturing to a deep blue-green. It makes a large rounded shrub to 15’ tall, and is tolerant of salt exposure and wet growing areas.
