Prunus persica 'Kit Donnell'

This peach is a recent creation of the California Rare Fruit Growers' Hybridizer Group, a group dedicated to reviving the classic fruit flavors of the past. It is named after the late Kit Donnell, former chairperson for the Santa Clara Valley, CA chapter of the CRFG. At 700 chill hours, it's easy for find the right place for this wonderful introduction.

Although new, this peach has many old-fashioned peach characteristics - a yellow freestone with little red coloration, powerful sweet/tart flavor and juicy texture. It's also very productive and the fruits are often of great size. It is an ideal peach for eating fresh, canning, pies and preserves.

  • Can this be planted in a container?

    This peach can be started in a container, but at full size will be too large for container growing long term.

  • The size for sale says that it is a dwarf but the un-pruned height is 18'. Isn't that a standard sizetree?

    A "standard" sized peach tree averages about 25'-30' tall and wide, but are rarely seen in cultivation.

  • Why does the cart say dwarf 4-5ft when ordering? Is there a dwarf version of this or is that its current size? Will grow to how high? 18' like the main page says? Also, How was this "developed" is it GMO?

    The tree is shipped at a height of 4'-5' as it is only 3 years old. It cannot be shipped larger, but it will grow to full height. This is a non-GMO tree developed through cross pollination and selection from seedlings.

peach trees

Both trees are healthy and undamaged. Signs of growth after just a few days in the ground. The Pick Zee is already covered in blooms.
