Prunus tomentosa x Prunus cerasifera

Also known as VVA 1. Plums and apricots grown on this Russian dwarfing rootstock have proven precocious. Spotty compatibility with peaches/nectarines. An excellent choice for home orchardists, the rootstock produces a tree about half the size of standard and it has shown excellent results when grown in heavy soils, acid or alkaline. Very little suckering observed.

  • Is this rootstock acceptable for containers?

    Depends on the container and the tree. Generally, it is preferred over larger rootstocks, but most trees will need special care to live in a container for their whole life. 

  • Will this ship this fall?

    No, these will ship in the spring season.

  • Does the krymsk 1 produce a smaller tree than the Marianna?

    Not significantly, no.

Very good rootstock

Nice caliper/thickness about 3/16-1/4"; good root development. Very good packaging, roots moist upon arrival.

Krymsk 1 crossed country and looks fine

The Krymsk 1 rootstocks made all the way across the country without apparent harm. The roots were still moist, looked like a water-holding gel, which is a great idea for long trips. Thanks for making diverse good rootstocks available, even for those of us far away.
