Zizyphus jujuba 'Lang'

Lang jujubes have large, pear-shaped, flavorful fruit which must be fully colored for best eating. You can let the fruit dry on the tree and eat them like dates, when they will be intensely sweet. Jujubes are pretty trees with glossy green leaves that turn yellow in the autumn. Called “Chinese Date”, these grafted trees will grow to 20’ or more but can be maintained much smaller. They are very productive and early bearing. The fruit needs hot summers to ripen well. In cooler summers pick it half brown and half green and bring it inside to finish ripening.

Grow in full sun. Rootstock can sucker in the early years, so keep any suckering shoots cut as soon as you see them. Offer regular water during establishment - considered drought tolerant once established. Tolerant of sea spray. Usually more productive in USDA zones 8 and above. Considered low chill, needing only 400 hours of temperatures between 32F-45F to reliably flower and bear fruit. Late to leaf out each spring.

Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 6

Mature Height: 18'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: Fall

Pollination: Needs Pollinizer

Size Options: Semi-Dwarf (4'-5')

Jujube

Delivered in great shape after excellent ongoing communication from Raintree. Very healthy roots. Potted it up in 15" container for upcoming year or two and staked it near its happy cousin, a contorted Jujube (also from Raintree). Seeing first bud swell after just a few days now.

"Lang" Jujube in South-East PA, zone 7A.

I planted "Lang" jujube in 2022. The tree grows vigorously and blooms abundantly, but it did set fruits only in this season (2024) when it grew-up and established (my "Lang's" neighbor and pollinator is "Shanxi Li"). As advertised, there are no disease or pest issues, but dears eat leaves and young shoots if can reach them :( . Bugs (insects), however do not touch it all together. Fruits are exotic, resembles a fresh (not dried) Medjool date when ripe (by appearance). The taste is mild, resembles an apple with fruity addition, moderately sweet with low acidity. The pulp is crunchy, of light green color.

All arrived bare root.

I was pretty terrified by the bare root stick trees that arrived but here it is summer and all the Lang Jujube sticks are flourishing with branches and leaves everywhere. I am very happy!

Healthy Tree

Although I received a healthy bare root tree, and I'm happy for that and successfully planted. But I have to say, the price I paid for is way too high compared to last year I purchased Two of them which was $35 for each for same size trees, and this year was about $70 plus shipping fee it was about $89 for 1 tree, my husband was Not too happy with me about that.
