Male Hardy Kiwi
Arguta actinidia
This is the later-flowering male hardy kiwi, making it an excellent pollinizer for later-flowering hardy female kiwis such as Annanasnaja, Chang Bai and Jumbo. Not a good pollinizer for the later-flowering fuzzy kiwis. Also known as H440.
Male hardy kiwis will usually take 3-5 years to mature to flowering age, and can stretch up to 40' long. Plant in fertile, well-drained soils and full-to-part sun; hardy kiwis prefer a little afternoon shade in hotter regions. Male plants will flower and provide pollen, but do not set fruit. One male can produce enough pollen to pollinize up to 8 female fruiting plants.
