Male Fuzzy Kiwi
Actinidia deliciosa
This robust climber blooms over a long period and is a necessary male pollinizer for fuzzy deliciosa females, as well as early-blooming hardy arguta kiwis, but not for later-blooming argutas or kolomikta kiwi varieties. This is a low-chill male best paired with Saanichton female fuzzy kiwi in low chill regions.
Low chill - will reliably flower with only 150 chill hours between 32F - 45F. Male fuzzy kiwis will usually take 1-3 years to mature to flowering age, and can stretch up to 40' long. Plant in fertile, well-drained soils with excellent drainage; plants will rot easily in wet or heavy soils. Male plants will flower and provide pollen, but do not set fruit. One male can produce enough pollen to pollinize up to 8 female fruiting plants.
