Muir Beauty Sugar Prune Plum
Prunus domestica 'Muir Beauty'
Muir Beauty is an improved form of dried plum, released in 2004, which was bred to increase the diversity of characteristics of drying plums. Ripening up to 2 weeks ahead of the commonly known French Improved variety, it offers early maturity and fruiting, a novel skin color, disease resistance, tolerance to heat, and a wide harvest window. It boast large oval fruit and a purple-rose exterior color, while maintaining its golden interior hue when dried. In taste tests of both fresh and dried fruit, this freestone prune is praised for its robust, thick texture and well-balanced, fruity flavor. This exceptional variety can be enjoyed fresh, dried, frozen, baked or canned.
The tree is a strong grower with a vertical shape. It also has a long harvest season and is early-ripening, early to start producing, and self-fertile. Requires 1000 chill hours between 32F - 45F to reliably bloom and bear fruit.
