Vaccinium x 'Nocturne'

This newly released cross of 3 different species, including Northern Highbush and Rabbiteye, adds a unique beauty and flavor to the home garden. Leaves emerge from winter dormancy later than other varieties in spring and the abundant white flowers become sweet, medium-size berries that are a stunning orange color before they turn dusky gunmetal black and ripen in late season, extending your harvest.

Nocturne is very cold hardy, and thrives in much of the nation - its late blooming habit protects its yield from erratic spring weather and is a boon for those growers planning for climate chaos. Healthy, vigorous, moderately spreading and suckering plants grow to 5 foot tall, and product up to 12 pounds of fruit per plant.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What does it taste like? More tart? More fruity? More sweet?

    Sweeter due it's Rabbiteye heritage.

  • Cross pollinating - is this a good variety to pollinate a Pink Lemonade with it’s 50% rabbiteye variety or would I be better off with a full rabbiteye plant?

For pollination it doesn't really matter. Flowers are flowers.

Gunmetal black blueberries striking in color and flavor

After three years, my Nocturne started to produce this year. Their unusual and striking color (bright red/orange turning overnight to black), large berries, apparently high yield, and superior taste make it the new favorite of my two dozen varieties. Visually appealing and fun to eat.
