Malus domestica 'NY#75414-1'

Old style taste but new style disease resistance! This beautiful, dark red apple has an excellent combination of sweet and tart flavors (thanks to its McIntosh heritage), and is resistant to apple scab, mildew and fireblight. Bred at the New York Fruit Testing program, it has been extremely productive and of superior flavor at fruit tasting trials at Mt. Vernon, WA.

It ripens in early October in the PNW and is considered a mid-season ripener.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Is the NY 75414-1 a spur or tip bearing? Same question for Kingston Black-thanks!

These are both spur bearing. Tip bearing apples are uncommon, a few partially tip bearing variaties like Pink Lady, Bramley's Seedling, and Granny Smith are still sold, but they are hard to manage commerically so have fallen out of favor.

  • What the best Pollinizer for this tree? Will this tree grow good in North Florida? Thanks.

This apple is an early-mid season bloomer, bloom group 2, but is unlikley to grow well in Northern Florida due to chilling hour requirements.

  • where do i find the different bloom groups ?

Check out our Apple Growing Guide!

  • What pollinator group is this in?

This apple is a bloom group #2.

Healthy and ready to rock!

Looks great so far. I was not thrilled with the structure and number of limbs compared to other trees in my order but time and pruning will shape how it grows over the next few years. So far it's looking great!
