Prunus domestica

This self-fertile, round green plum grows in the mountains of Iran. It is often picked before it is fully ripe and eaten fresh or cooked by itself or with sour cherries. The sour plums, often spiced with salt are made into 'goje sabz' (also a knickname for the tree itself, in Farsi), which is popular in the Middle East. If left to fully ripen the plums are golden, soft and sweet.

Requires 350-400 chill hours. Higher yields can be obtained with pollination by another European plum.

The Most Coveted Trees For Iranians!

Many Iranians in the Bay Area crave Persian sour plums. However, it's very hard to find the Gojeh Sabz variety in Northern California; they need to be shipped from SoCal. On top of this, due to the high cost of land in the Bay Area, most don't have room for a standard or semi-dwarf sized tree. I originally came to raintree nursery to order rootstocks, but when I saw they had a dwarf version of the persian plum tree, I couldn't believe it at first. After I called to confirm that they were gojeh sabz and not greengage, I immediately ordered 3.

All three trees came dormant, and I trimmed 6 inches off each branch, and kept all 3 trees in the shade so they could get accustomed to the warm California weather. In about 2 weeks, 2 of the 3 trees started growing leaves, and as of last week the 3rd one has little leaves that are starting to grow. They are beautiful, high quality trees with strong roots, and I will definitely consider ordering more next year along with rootstocks!

Hi - the tree arrived in a great condition. Since I received it in May, will it leaf out this season at all?
