Vaccinium x 'Pink Lemonade'

Pink Lemonade remains the first of the newest introductions of "not-blue" blueberries! This innovative variety's fruit turns a charming solid pink when fully ripe, sometimes with light yellow patching. which makes it a unique and interesting addition in the edible landscape. Bushes grow to 4-5' tall. Medium-sized berries are mild and sweet with a hint of lemon when ripe midseason. The leaves turn a pretty yellow/orange in the fall. Spring blooms are white with a pink blush, and the winter twig color is red, giving you interesting color in all seasons.

This low-chill variety only needs 300 chill hours to bloom and ripen reliably, due to its high rabbiteye content. Not a reliable pollinizer for blueberries with Northern Highbush parentage, and is not pollinized by them, although the plant is considered reliably self-fertile. Highly acidic soils and regular moisture keep the plant happy and the berries plump and juicy.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can you grow a rabbit eye blueberry variety in zone 7a?

Hello, yes you can! I would suggest having another blueberry close by though for pollination success.

  • Is this plant self fertile?

Partially. It will crop heavier and more reliably when planted with other Northern Highbush blueberry varieties.

  • Is this a highbush variety?

Pink Lemonade is a hybrid of the Rabbiteye blueberry 'Delite' and an unnamed northern highbush cultivar, bred by the USDA over a period of 10 years.

  • Can I keep this variety in a pot? If so what size pot should I get?

You can yes. 10-20 (dry) gallons at least.

  • How old are your pink lemonade blueberry plants. Is there a particular other variety that fits best with pink lemonade? I'm in zone 5b.

Roughly 2 years old, and any other besides the Rabbiteye blueberries.

  • I just ordered this, not realizing its for zones 6-8. I live in Zone 4. Can I keep this plant in a pot and bring indoors in the winter?

You can yes. It will eventually need a larger pot, but they transplant well. Be sure to water more frequently in a potted environment.

  • What is a good variety to plant with Pink Lemonade to increase pollination?

Any other blueberry will provide cross pollination for this one.

  • What variety would be the best pollinator for this? I’m looking for something that has rabbiteye in it?

No, you would need northern highbush or northern lowbush.

  • How long does it take the blueberries to produce fruit? Also what is the difference between the 2 liter vs 2-3 ft option?

They are sold already flowering, so the same year or maybe the next if they aren't happy with the transplant. They are all roughly 2ft tall in a 1 gallon pot.

The Bush that arrived was in great shape. I have an older Pink Lemonade Bush and the berries are eagerly awated and quickly eaten.

So far, so good

The plant arrived as scheduled, I potted it up and put it in a part sun/part shade area awaiting fall planting. It’s perky and seems happy. It will grow in a “blue berry alley” that will be covered with bird/insect netting during harvesting season. Hopefully, that will allow us to enjoy more berries. We are pleased that everything we’ve ordered from you has grown.
Thank you - Linda in Va.

Pink lemonade

Pretty good shipping very minimal damage just a few leaves turned a bit brown and some fell off completely but most survived and the flowers came completely undamaged the blueberry was pretty tall about 2-3 ft in a gallon pot and a couple handful of flowers some already pollinated.the only negative thing I could say is that the entire plants stems were very thin but being in such a small pot I could see why.
