Red Empress™ Goji Berry
Lycium barbarum 'Red Empress'
The Red Empress goji berry, also known as 'wolf berry' in its native China, is an exceptional variety known for its deep red, juicy berries and its abundant harvests starting 1-2 years after planting. With its striking appearance, this deciduous shrub will be a standout in any garden, patio, or balcony. Its graceful, arching branches are adorned with clusters of delicate purple flowers in spring that give way to clusters of plump, luscious, red berries in late summer/fall.
One of nature's superfoods, the Red Empress™ Goji berries boast an array of health benefits. Bursting with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, these power-packed berries are renowned for their immune-boosting properties and their ability to promote healthy skin. They are also believed to have anti-aging effects, support eye health, aid digestion, and enhance overall well-being.
This easy-to-care-for, self-fertile plant thrives in full sun and well-draining, alkaline soil, adapting to a range of climates. The arching, lax branches grow to a length of approximately 4-6 feet and are best managed by using a tomato cage or tuteur and training the branches up and through the center to create a "fountain" effect, or gently trellising. Cold hardy to USDA zone 5.
