Red ShahToot Mulberry
Morus macroura 'Red ShahToot'
The Persian Mulberry tree, also known as the ShahToot, is well-known for producing delicious, wide, juicy fruits with a pleasant combination of sweet and sour flavors when they are ripe. The fruit turns almost black in color, resembling blackberries, but its taste, texture, and growth habits are quite distinct. While red mulberry trees can grow large and upright, ShahToot trees grow at a slower pace. They produce fruit throughout the summer months and are one of the most beloved Persian fruit trees in the United States. The fruit is juicy and sweet with a hint of sourness until it fully ripens and becomes dark red (almost black) with an extremely delicious and sweet flavor. The tree typically grows to a height of 25-30 feet and has large heart-shaped leaves.
