Malus domestica 'Redlove Calypso'

This new variety will make you dance with joy! From the breeding work of Markus Kobelt in Switzerland, this unique new variety is part of the Redlove family of red-fleshed apples that feature stunning, dark pink spring blooms, striking red flesh, great flavor and sturdy constitutions. While red-fleshed apples have been around for decades, many originating from the vintage Pink Pearl variety, until now most have lacked the excellent, juicy texture and sweet flavor that modern consumers expect. Redlove Calypso has cracked the code, offering everything you want, plus a distinctive heady aroma that lifts it into the realm of the extraordinary.

Excellent disease resistance against scab, due to its crabapple heritage. Early blooming category 1, and early midseason ripener.

Hardy to USDA Zone: 4

Mature Height: 11'-12' (Dwarf)

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: Early midseason

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • what pollinator should i use for redlove and /or firecraker. will they work for each other? I need dwarf trees

All Redlove apples are Bloom Group 1, so any early bloomers will work.

  • Does this dwarf tree require support of a wall or trellis to prevent wind or heavy rain damage?

No, it can stand on its own just fine.

  • Could I order this as a dwarf?

It already is a dwarf on M26 rootstock, so yes.

  • Do these have any disease resistance?

Yes, they are very resistant to apple scab specifically and generally resistant to other apple diseases.

  • I'm interested in the REDLOVE® CALYPSO APPLE. How many chill hours does it need. I live in Georgia and need a low chill of 500 hours or less. Does any of your red apples meet this criteria? Thank you.

Redlove apples need at least 600 chill hours, some maybe more. We do not carry any low chill red-fleshed apples.

  • What pollinizer does it need? What is it growing rate? Can I grow it in Dallas Texas? Thank you

Anything in bloom group 1 or 2. Check out Apple Growing Guide for a full bloom chart.

Bit on the smaller side , good things come in small packages ! Very healthy bare root tree, sprouting already and budding as well. It will be years before I taste these beauties however, getting to watch those beautiful bright red, dark pink and pastel blooms every year will be worth the wait!

I had no issues with the other apple trees I ordered from Raintree, but this variety was in poor health on arrival (spindly, weak bark, etc.) and never budded out. Not recommended.

Hi Randi. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am sorry to hear you have concerns about your Redlove Calypso. Some trees can take a little while to wake up and leaf out, I hope that is the case here. All of our plants are covered under the Raintree Guarantee, which extends until August 1st of the year you received your plant. If your tree fails to leaf out, we are happy to provide you with store credit toward a replacement tree for the following season. Simply emails us at help@raintreenursery.com. Best, Jacque
