Beautiful, upright plants, about 8 inches tall, are exceptional additions to the edible landscape, in rockeries, border plantings and other sites where they will fill in and cover an area quickly. The everbearing plants produce 3/4 inch, elongated, red berries with sweet flavor. First cultivated 250 years ago in France, these Alpine natives grow well in either sun or shade. Space them about one foot apart. We are offering the Improved Rugen which does produce some runners. Sold in 4" pots.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How far apart should they be planted?

6"-12" is good to start. They will spread and fill in.

  • Hello. How many plants are in 1 order?

    1 plant in a 4 inch pot.

  • If I plant 8 to 12 plants will they spread to use as ground cover?

Yes, provided there is no grass competition.

  • Are they a good choice for CT (zone 6)? If I plant them in July will they fruit the following summer?

    Yes and yes!

  • I have false (Indian) strawberries (weeds) in my lawn which cross with regular strawberries to produce non-sweet fruit. Can I grow Musk or Alpine strawberries? We have been aggressively fighting the weeds for 12 years, still have them, and would really like to grow strawberries in our yard.

Yes you can - if you get rid of the grass. Alpine and musk strawberries are not competetive and grass will choke them out quickly. Additionally apline strawberries are best in full shade.

  • Do these produce runners.

Yes. Not as many or as aggressively, but they do spread via stolons (runners).

  • Do these produce runners?

    Absolutely yes.

High quality plants

Great plants. They came in the dormant state, one with white berries. In 2 days berries riped and they are ready for harvesting. I probably save some for seeds. High quality, ready to grow plants.
