We obtained this fig from southern France where it was recommended as a good choice for cooler summer climates. It has proven to set a summer ripening breba crop in the cool Pacific Northwest and is also favored in England. In warmer summer areas it also ripens a fall crop.

The small to medium size oval shaped fig has dark purple to dark brown skin and strawberry colored flesh with a delicious flavor, good for fresh eating or drying. The tree has an upright shape. It is also known as Noir de Juillet.

This variety is grown from tissue culture and has been heat-treated to significantly reduce the presence of Fig Mosaic Virus.

  • Is it hardy in New Jersey or does it need winter protection?

    It depends. Sultane is a zone 7b fig that could survive in zone 6b with protection, but doesn't need it in other parts of the state and would likely die in the coldest areas.

  • How tall does this tree get? I live in 98168.

    Roughly 20 feet tall by 20 feet wide.

It has already grown a lot of new leaves. I already had a couple other fig trees. This will be a nice addition.

Arrived in great shape

Although it was quite a trip all the way to Miami the figs arrived in great shape, mainly due the size of the container and the way they where packed and shipped.
