Rubus parviflorus

Thimbleberry is a Pacific Northwest native, related to the raspberry. Thimbleberry produces small, bright red fruits shaped like the top of a thimble. In the spring they display with white, 1' mildly fragrant flowers appearing on the erect, thornless 4-6' canes that grow in thickets. Come summer, the harvest of rich, tangy fruit arrives - the flavor is strong and the berries are tender and melt in your mouth!

Plants thrive in full or partial shade, and prefer moist, acidic-to-neutral soils.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What kind of pests should I look out for with thimbleberries? Are they more resistant to fungi than traditional raspberries? (I'm from Oregon)

Crown borers, aphids, and spotted wing drosophilia are all possible pests that can affect thimbleberries

  • How are thimbleberries with deer, and planted near the WA coast? (Coastal fog and potential salt spray)

Thimbleberries are not saline tolerant if that is a factor in your planting. When planted in partial to full shade they can spread quickly, but depending on wildlife pressure you may need to protect them to get them established.

  • Does this come as a single cane?

Yes it is a single cane.

Waiting for signs of growth

My thimbleberry arrived on 4/21, I planted it on 4/23. It's 5/3 and I don't see any buds. Other plants that I received are growing or showing signs of small buds. I sure hope this one is okay. I planted it outside, in good soil. I've given it some water (when needed). (It's been rainy). The nearby blackberries are growing like crazy so the location is good for berries.

Sent Dead Plants

I had looked everywhere for thimbleberries. The plants were expensive at $20 each, but I ordered three. All three arrived dead. Very poor quality control. They should not send out dead plants, and they took two weeks to get to me after they said they sent them. Never ordering from here again.

Very bad service

Made me wait for weeks and weeks and then sent when we had more than 2 weeks of snow and freezing weather predicted. have not been able to plant them. Tried to telephone. No one would come to phone. Left negative review and person who responded lied and said it was a potted plant rather than bare root. Terrible experience!!!!!
