Waingaro™ Guava
Acca sellowiana 'Waingaro'
From New Zealand, and famous pineapple guava (feijoa) breeder Nigel Ritson, Waingaro is now available here in the US! Waingaro is said to be one of Riston's favorites, on par with the Takaka for size and flavor. Like quince, pineapple guavas can vary significantly in their flavor profiles making them an amazing plant that can fit any taste! Just like figs and pawpaws, pineapple guava has developed something of a cult following of enthused collectors eager to get their hands on the latest varieties.
The beautiful, sweet, cotton candy flowers make this one of the coolest plants we have come across for those in similar temperate climates. Hardy to around 10 degrees. Waingaro is self-fertile and is late-ripening, best suited for warmer climates with long growing seasons or greenhouse conditions. This variety is grafted to an A. sellowiana seedling.
